Shreveport Police identify officer involved in shooting

Shreveport Police are releasing the name of the officer who discharged his weapon last Friday during a pursuit.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. on June 12, 2009, Cpl. Lowell Bowen, a six year veteran of the force, fired three rounds from his department issued service weapon as a man fleeing from officers apparently tried to run him over. The suspect was not struck by the gunfire and Cpl. Bowen was not injured.

The suspect, identified as 26 year old Benny Richmond, Jr., of the 3000 block of Lindholm St. in Shreveport, was arrested and charged with aggravated flight from an officer, possession of a schedule II narcotic, and taking contraband into a penal facility.-
