FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shreveport Police investigate homicide

Shreveport Police detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred yesterday evening in the 700 block of Bringhurst.

Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the 700 block of Bringhurst at approximately 8:15 p.m. last night relative to a report of shots being heard in the area there. Upon arrival, officers discovered 22 year old Kevin Powell of the 700 block of Sanders St. in Shreveport suffering from two gunshot wounds to his torso. The Shreveport Fire Department transported Powell to LSUHSC where he was later pronounced deceased. Detectives were dispatched to the scene and upon further investigation, determined that some type of verbal altercation occurred between the victim and at least 4 male suspects. This argument apparently escalated and at least one of the suspects produced a firearm and shot Powell. Officers located a secondary crime scene just a few blocks east of Bringhurst as well, in the 400 block of W. 77th St., where approximately 20 shell casing were located and a vehicle was damaged by gunfire. Shreveport Police crime scene investigators processed both scenes.

Anyone who has any information regarding this homicide is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6955 or Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
