Shreveport Police pursue, capture homicide suspect

Shreveport Police officers pursued a suspect this afternoon in connection with an ongoing homicide investigation.

Investigators working last night’s homicide of 22 year old Kevin Powell in the 700 Bringhurst, following an in depth investigation, were able to develop a suspect in the murder. At approximately 3:06 p.m. this afternoon, Shreveport Police officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by this suspect on Hollywood Ave. between Bethume Dr.and Kennedy Dr. The suspect refused to stop for officers and led them on a lengthy pursuit in and around Shreveport’s Mooretown neighborhood. During this pursuit, the offender swerved the vehicle as if he was going to run over an officer at the intersection of Bethume Dr. and Hollywood Av. The officer subsequently fired three shots at the suspect. A short time later, the suspect finally stopped on Hollywood Ave just west of the intersection at Hearne Ave. and was taken into custody. The suspect was not struck by gunfire.

Detectives have impounded the vehicle used in the pursuit and are interviewing the suspect at this time.
