Individual arrested for impersonating an officer One man is in jail this morning after escaping from the police he is now charged with mimicking. Shreveport Police patrol units responded to the 7800 Block of Millicent way shortly after 9:00 last night to assist Caddo Constables on a traffic stop. Upon arrival, it was learned the Garrett Barton was driving a black Ford Crown Victoria which looks identical to several unmarked Shreveport Police vehicles. The vehicle was driven by Garrett Barton, White Male DOB 1-16-1988, who now faces one count of Impersonating a Peace Officer and one count of Simple Escape. Barton had added some equipment like a push bumper and emergency lights to enhance the fake image of his car. During the traffic stop Shreveport Police units learned from the Constables, Barton had been making traffic stops in this vehicle. Barton would claim he was either a police officer or a federal agent, while carrying a black pistol in a holster. It was later learned that the black pistol was a plastic pellet pistol. He stated that he carried the gun to intimidate people.
While assisting the Constables, Barton somehow made his way out of the back of the police unit and fled on foot. After a several hour search for Barton, he was found in the back of the apartment complex still with the handcuffs on him.
Barton was arrested again and booked into the City Jail for Simple Escape. The charges for Impersonating a Peace Officer will be waiting for him when he is transferred to Caddo Correctional Facility. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.shreveportla.gov |
