LA Tactical Police Association

Beginning Monday, May 4th and ending on Thursday, May 7th, the Shreveport Police Department, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and 2nd Security Forces Squadron from Barksdale AFB will host the Louisiana Tactical Police Officers Association Annual Conference.

The conference will bring together Special Response Units from across the state to train in the latest tactics and methods used in high risk endeavors such as hostage rescue and high risk entries.

One of the events on Tuesday, May the 5th, will be a tactical competition at the Caddo Parish Sheriff's outdoor range. In this all day event, teams will compete in various "real life" scenarios such as shooting and obstacle courses. The media is welcome to attend and video these events with one caveat. Many of the participants competing are dual purpose officers whose identity must be protected.

On Wednesday and Thursday of the conference, these tactical officers will train in a more realistic environment in neighborhoods throughout the city using houses which have been slated for demolition. The location of the houses which will be utilized are:

2810 Corbit - Door Breeching

1446 Harvard - Hostage Rescue and Negotiations

2739 Frederick - Scouting and Diagraming

The realistic training this opportunity provides is essential, and we want the citizens in these neighborhoods to be aware of the training being conducted and not be concerned. Uniformed Patrol Officers will be stationed at these houses to ensure citizen safety.

The media is welcome to come out and video the Tuesday competition as well as training at the locations listed above. Interviews with various departments and some of the instructors can be arranged.
