Shreveport Police Officer injured in vehicle crash A Shreveport Police Officer was injured this morning in a vehicle crash at the intersection of Mansfield Rd. and Southside Dr. At approximately 9:03 a.m. this morning Cpl. Vincent Baurichter, an eight year veteran of the department, was responding to a call for service in his department issued marked 2006 Chevrolet Impala. According to preliminary statements gathered by investigators, the officer was utilizing his emergency equipment as he approached the intersection of Mansfield Rd. and Southside Dr. when a 2009 Ford pick-up truck entered the intersection there. The officer took evasive action to avoid striking the truck and the patrol unit subsequently struck a light pole and then a 1999 Crown Victoria in the southbound lanes of Mansfield Rd. The patrol unit proceeded to flip over and finally came to rest in the southbound lanes of Mansfield Rd. Cpl. Baurichter was transported to Willis-Knighton South by the Shreveport Fire Department with what has been described as minor injuries. He has since been treated and released from the hospital. Investigators issued the driver of the Ford truck, 39 year old Michael Champagne, Jr. of the 4500 block of Greenwood-Mooringsport Rd. in Greenwood, LA, a citation for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
