FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shreveport Police to showcase innovative program

Shreveport Police Chief Henry Whitehorn is proud to announce that the Shreveport Police Department has arranged to bring Mr. Roy Jay, founder of “Project Clean Slate”, to our city on Thursday, March 19, to share the benefits and successes of the project with local law enforcement and community leaders.

“Project Clean Slate” originated in Multnomah County, Portland, Oregon and was designed as a tool for local governments, businesses and others to use in their continuing efforts to support and improve the skills of workers and reduce legal impediments to employment, particularly for those in minority, targeted and underserved communities. The financial drain these populations impose on the state, city and county (parish) resources can be reduced and, in fact, replenished. “Project Clean Slate” has had a direct impact on bringing down Part I crimes in the city of Portland and Chief Whitehorn noted, “I believe it has the potential to do the same here in Shreveport.” Additional information is available at www.projectcleanslate.com.

Mr. Jay’s presentation to community leaders will begin at 10 a.m. in the Shreveport Police Department’s Assembly Room, on the second floor of the Police Complex. The media is invited to attend and to see first hand how this innovative program might be used to make our community a better place to live. Mr. Jay will make another presentation to law enforcement officials at 2:00 p.m. at the Sky Box in Independence Stadium that will not be open to the media. Officials will be available afterwards, however, to field questions.
