Shreveport Police working fatality crash on I-20

Shreveport Police are investigating a fatality crash that occurred this morning on I-20 east between Monkhouse and Jewella.

At approximately 6:50 a.m., Shreveport police officers were dispatched to I-20 east relative to a vehicle striking a pedestrian there. Upon arrival, officers learned that a group of children had been walking south, trying to cross the interstate on foot. The juveniles had apparently already crossed the west bound lanes of the interstate and were attempting to cross the eastbound lanes when one of the juveniles was struck by a 2006 GMC single cab pick-up truck being operated by 45 year old Scott McCollum of Keithville, La.

The 12 year old male was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department where he was pronounced deceased. No citations have been issued at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
