***Update*** Shreveport Police Officer seriously injured in attack

The Shreveport Police Department is releasing the name of the officer injured in a brutal attack yesterday.

Cpl. Wayne Petterway was viciously attacked yesterday at LSUHSC by Melvin Tyner, an inmate who had been transported to the hospital for evaluation. Tyner has been charged with attempted first degree murder and was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center.

Cpl. Petterway, who was hired by the department in November of 1990 as a jailor and became a police officer in September of 1994, is reported to be in fair condition this morning.
