FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shreveport Police Officer Hurt during Traffic stop

A Shreveport Police Officer was transported to Willis-Knighton Hospital this morning after being struck by a vehicle that had been stopped for a traffic violation. The driver of that vehicle was shot at least once by the officer and transported to LSUHSC.

At approximately 12:55 a.m. this morning, patrol officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated erratically in the 1500 block of Portland. As officers conducted their investigation, the driver of the vehicle placed the car in reverse and, in an apparent attempt to flee from police, began to drive away. One of the officers was subsequently pinned in between the open door of vehicle and the vehicle itself. As the officer was being dragged down the 1500 block of Portland, he was able to fire his service weapon at the suspect, who was struck by gunfire at least once in the lower extremities.

The officer, whose name is not being released at this time as per Shreveport Police Department policy, is at Willis-Knighton Hospital with what has been described as moderate injuries. The suspect, whose identity is not yet known, is at LSUHSC in stable condition.

Shreveport Police detectives and crime scene investigators are on the scene at this time.

Anyone with any information regarding the identity of this suspect are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com
