Shreveport Police Officer charged with D.W.I.

Shreveport Police Officer Michael Welch, 32, was charged today with 1st offense D.W.I. in connection with an incident that occurred early this morning in the 6200 block of Bert Kouns. Welch was off-duty but driving a marked police car when he was arrested.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Shreveport Police received a complaint from a concerned citizen regarding a marked patrol unit being operated in a careless manner on Bert Kouns. Officers were immediately dispatched to the area and subsequently located Welch and, upon further investigation, placed him under arrest for D.W.I. Welch has been booked into the Shreveport City Jail.

Welch, a 3-year veteran assigned to the Uniformed Services Division, has been placed on administrative leave by Chief Henry Whitehorn pending an internal investigation.
