FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Earn some extra Christmas cash while making Shreveport a safer place to live

With the Christmas Holiday just around the corner, the Shreveport Police Department and Crime Stoppers would like to remind citizens of a crime fighting initiative designed to keep them safe.

The gun abatement program called “Don’t shoot, I want to grow up” offers a reward to people who anonymously inform police of individuals who may be illegally carrying a weapon.

It is illegal for anyone without a concealed weapon permit to carry a concealed weapon. It is also illegal for anyone who has been convicted of certain felony crimes to have possession of a firearm.

Crime Stoppers will pay $200.00 for a handgun taken off of a convicted felon or juvenile and $500.00 for any rifle, shotgun or automatic weapon seized.

The weapon in turn will be seized and taken off the streets of Shreveport. Crime Stoppers is supporting this on-going initiative to combat gun crimes.

The Shreveport Police Department is urging anyone who may know about any illegally possessed firearm to call Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373 and earn some extra Christmas money while doing something to make our community a better place to live.
