Shreveport Police arrest suspect in Battery case

Detectives with the Shreveport Police Department have made an arrest today in conjunction with a battery that occurred in early December.

On December 6th, 2008, at approximately 11:50 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the Citgo gas station at I-20 and Bert Kouns regarding the victim, Mr. Kaylon Johnson, being attacked by an unknown suspect. Mr. Johnson suffered serious injuries as a result of this brutal beating.

Shreveport Police detectives immediately began an in-depth investigation into this crime in a concerted effort to identify and arrest the person or persons responsible. Due to concerns regarding the motives behind this attack, agents with the Shreveport Police Department’s Office of Special Investigation and agents of the F.B.I. assisted investigators.

As a result of this thorough, collaborative investigation, detectives have arrested Jimmy W. Booth, age 25, of the 200 block of Cheryl St. in Longview, Texas. Booth has been booked into the Shreveport City Jail on a charge of Second Degree Battery, a felony offense punishable by imprisonment with or without hard labor for not more than five years and a fine of not more than $2000.00. Booth’s bond is set at $50,000.

Shreveport Police Chief Henry Whitehorn praised the efforts of investigators, saying “Our department took this case very seriously and conducted a thorough investigation, ultimately leading to the arrest of the man we believe committed this egregious offense. I think it is important to add that the F.B.I. is still aggressively pursuing this disturbing case to ensure that Mr. Johnson’s civil rights were not violated. Towards that end, we are asking that anyone who may have witnessed this offense or have any information pertaining to this case please call the Shreveport Police Department at 318-673-6955 or the local F.B.I. office at 318-861-1890.”

Anyone with any information regarding the identity of this suspect are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com
