West 69^th Street Homicide

One man is dead this morning after attempting to rob another man at gun point.

Patrol Officers heard several gunshots this morning while conducting a traffic stop on W. 70th street shortly before 3:30 this morning. Officer responded to the 300 block of W. 69th street where they found Messiah Demery, Black Male DOB 7-16-1981 from the 8000 of Line Ave., shot one time in the chest.

Demery was transported to LSU-HSC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

During the course of the investigation detectives learned Rodrigus Kennedy and Shamicheal Kennedy were sitting in a car in the driveway when Demery committed an armed robbery with a handgun.

Rodrigus then armed himself and shot Demery. The gun used in the shooting was located inside a house in the 300 block of W. 69th street along with some Marijuana.

Rodrigus Kennedy was arrested for Trigger Lock and Poss of Sch II CDS with intent to distribute. The investigation continues at this time.
