FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Power Outages closes police department
Shreveport Police Department's non-emergency offices will be closed today, because of a power outage inside the building.
People who need police assistance can still call 911 in cases of emergency. However, administrative offices will be closed because of a blown transformer within Police Headquarters, located at 1234 Texas Avenue.
The power outage occurred about 4:30 a.m. today after a transformer off-site went down. When Swepco brought the power back up, it tripped one of the Police Headquarters' transformers. As a result, there is no air conditioning and no computer systems are operable at this time. A backup generator has allowed some emergency lights and other areas to maintain electricity - but not enough to allow employees to work as usual.
It is believed that service will be restored by tomorrow. But for now, all non-essential police personnel are being sent home.
PLEASE ASK THE PUBLIC NOT TO CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TODAY. THEY WILL NOT GET AN ANSWER. IF THEY HAVE AN EMERGENCY, THEY MAY STILL CALL 911 AND GET HELP.
Information can be left with Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com.
