Special Response Team to get new rifles

A group of citizens has donated $12,000 for the Shreveport Police Department's Special Response Team to purchase new rifles.

Five new rifles, each costing about $2,400, are used by Special Response Team officers during high risk operations such as a barricaded subject or a hostage situation.

When learning that the department needed replacement rifles for the older weapons currently being used, attorneys Ron Miciotto, Jack Bailey and Willie Singleton stepped up to the plate and offered to buy the new ones.

The donation has been approved by the Shreveport City Council, and the process is underway to get the rifles ordered.
