Witness sought in attempted rape
Shreveport Police Department is looking for the driver of a car who helped prevent a woman from being raped over the weekend.
The incident occurred about 11 p.m. on Friday, May 23, in the 800 block of Columbia.
The 19-year-old woman said she was walking in the 800 block of Columbia Street when she passed by the suspect. The man then grabbed her and attempted to sexually assault her.
A struggle ensued, and that's when the driver who witnessed the incident stopped his car. He then got out of the car, and the suspect ran away.
The motorist was driving a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Honda Accord, near the intersection of Columbia and Line Avenue.
Police are hoping to find the motorist to get information about what he saw.
Meanwhile, police also are looking for suspect information. The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens/early 20s. He was about 5'7" to 5'8" tall and weighed 130 to 140 pounds. He had a medium-length, afro-style haircut. He was wearing a black t-shirt, long blue jean shorts with cargo pockets and light-colored tennis shoes.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Detective John Stratton at 673-6955.
Information can be left with Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com.
