Shreveport Police Dept. Phone: 318/673-6932 Fax: 318/673-6933 Contact: Kacce Hargrave, Public Information Officer FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Shreveport Police Department is looking for information regarding the thefts of catalytic converters that are being stolen off of vehicles, mainly Toyota 4-Runners.
Six cases have been reported being cut off vehicles in southeast Shreveport. Other cases have been reported in Bossier City and Caddo Parish.
The Toyotas are pre-2006 models. The newer models have the catalytic converters at the manifold, making them nearly impossible to steal.
While Toyotas are being targeted for their valuable metal, any car is susceptible to this type of theft. To fix a vehicle that has been victimized is not cheap. The replacement value for a Toyota Catalytic Converter averages $1,200, and the installation charge is about $100.00. Anyone with information regarding these thefts is asked to call Detective Roger Courtney at 673-6985. Information can be left with Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.ci.shreveport.la.us/dept/police/spdnews |
