SAFE kid’s day offers fun and education
Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death and disability in people age 1-44. Each year 500,000 people die from traumatic injury. ThinkFirst helps prevent traumatic injury through education.
ThinkFirst will partner with numerous local organizations to observe the 25th Safe Kids Day on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 9:00 am until noon at Shreveport’s Festival Plaza. This year’s theme is Gear Up for Safety and will feature fun and informative workshops on swimming safety, bicycle safety, home and playground safety and automobile safety.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Department will have a limited number of free booster-seats for parents who have their eligible children present. The Shreveport Police Department, Community Oriented Policing, Shreveport Fire Department, K-9 Search and Rescue, Northwest Louisiana YMCA, Southern Hills Kiwanis Club, Caddo Caring Canines, Louisiana Medicaid LaCHIP and others will have informative booths and give-a-ways as well as valuable information for children and their parents.
Street Smart, ThinkFirst’s nationally known animated character, will make appearances throughout the morning, helping children become safety superheroes. All of the day’s events are free to the public.
Mayor Cedric Glover’s Safe Kids Day Proclamation will be read at 9:00 am at a special press event.
Join ThinkFirst and Safe Kids Louisiana for an enjoyable, entertaining and educational morning.
