A Shreveport Police corporal was taken to Willis-Knighton North to be treated for an injury to his leg after being struck by a suspected burglar’s car early this morning.
The officer was working undercover surveillance at the ColorTyme and surrounding area in response to a rash of recent burglaries in the 700 block of Shreveport-Barksdale. At approximately 3:50 a.m., a burglar broke a window of the business and was loading a television in his car.
When the officer went to arrest the suspect, the suspect tried to run over the officer, striking him in the leg. The officer then fired shots at the suspect to stop the threat. The suspect was shot in the upper body. His car continued a short distance and stopped. The suspect was removed from the car and transported to LSU Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
ColorTyme has been burglarized three times in the past few weeks.
As standard procedure, the officer will be placed on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation.
The names of the suspect and the officer are not being released at this time.
