Wounded officer to be at Dean-Williams run
Shreveport Police Officer John Madjerick, who was shot in the neck earlier this year, will be present at the annual Dean-Williams Memorial Run to benefit Special Olympics.
The 5K run-walk will take place at 8 a.m. this Saturday. It is the 13th year the department has sponsored the run, which is named after two fallen SPD officers. The run will be at begin at the corner of Lake Street and Clyde Fant. The run will go south on Clyde Fant.
Officer Ron Dean was fatally wounded at an apartment complex in December of 1992 while attempting to serve a search warrant. Corporal Dwayne Martin Williams died in March of 1993 while attempting to serve a search warrant for narcotics. During their careers, both were avid supporters of the Louisiana Special Olympics. This run is held every year, not only in their memory, but in memory of all fallen law enforcement officers.
All funds raised are donated to the Special Olympics of Louisiana.
