FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lateral transfer program begins

Shreveport Police Department has now made it easier to recruit experienced officers, thanks to a new lateral transfer program that has been created.

Chief Henry Whitehorn has authorized the hiring of experienced officers who want to come to work at the Shreveport Police Department from other agencies without them having to attend the full 16-week police academy.

Some requirements will still be in place, such as physical training and a current civil service test score, but officers who meet these basic requirements can go right to work with a Field Training Officer.

The first recruit to take advantage of the lateral transfer program is Daniel Lynch, who worked for Bossier City Police Department for 3 1/2 years. Lynch was set up to attend the full police academy when he learned it would not be necessary.

He will still have to attend some academy classes to learn specific things about SPD policies and practices, but he is already out on the streets and has been for the past several weeks.

Information can be left with crimestoppers at 673-7373 or by logging onto the crimestoppers website at www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com.
