Sutherlands Shoplifting

Shreveport Police today arrested a man suspected of shoplifting from Sutherlands in the 2700 block of W. 70th. Alvin Brooks, Black male DOB 12-21-1961 of the 1800 block of Simpkin Dr. in Shreveport, was confronted by store employees and attempted to flee on foot. Brooks was chased by the employees down W. 70th, onto West Canal, where he jumped into a drainage ditch.

The officers responding to the call caught Brooks running through the ditch. Upon being taken into custody, Brooks was found in possession of a lock set, deadbolt and door knob. He was also in possession of a crack pipe and what appeared to be crack-cocaine wrapped for sale.

Brooks was booked into the City Jail, and is charged with shoplifting, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and drug distribution, all of which are felonies.
