Early morning shooting

One man was wounded this morning after he shot himself and then tried to cover it up by lying to the police.

Shortly before 11:00 AM this morning patrol officers and the fire department responded to the 500 block of W. 83rd street after receiving a call saying a man was shot in the lower leg.

Demario Davis, a Black Male DOB 2-3-90, told officers he was walking down the street when a black car drove up and shot him hitting him in his lower leg. Due to the vague description of the car as well as the location of the where he was shot detectives were given permission to search his residence, but no firearm was located.

When detectives contacted Davis again at LSUHSC, Davis admitted he had shot himself.

Davis was then issued a summons for making a false police report.
