FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Motorcycle officer struck by pickup truck
Shreveport police are investigating a major accident today that sent a Shreveport Police corporal to the hospital.
Cpl. Duane Farquhar, an 8-year police veteran, was taken to Willis-Knighton Pierremont with broken ribs. He is expected to stay in the hospital overnight for observation.
Farquhar was helping to escort a wide load on Bert Kouns Industrial Loop when a white Chevy pickup truck pulled out in front of him at the Millicent Way intersection. Farquhar reportedly swerved to miss the truck and collided with Lt. W.E. Scott, who was in a patrol car blocking the intersection for the escort.
Farquhar was transported to the hospital, while Lt. Scott was not injured. The pickup truck left the scene.
It is unknown whether the motorcycle and the pickup truck actually collided before the motorcycle struck the patrol car.
Police are working to improve the quality of video caught from the patrol car's dashboard camera. If the suspect truck has not been located by the time the video has been enhanced, investigators may choose to release pictures to the media for assistance in locating for the suspect. If that happens, the media will be notified.
The investigation continues.
