Police recruiters back at Wal-Mart

The recruiting effort by the Shreveport Police Department last Friday at Wal-Mart was so successful that the bus will be out again this Friday.

This time the command bus will be at the Brookshire's parking lot in the 3000 block of North Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Officers will be on hand to answer questions about becoming a police officer, a jailer or a communications officer/dispatcher.

Last Friday, the bus was at Wal-Mart on Bert Kouns, and about 80 people submitted applications or inquired about going to work for SPD.

Recruiting good police officers has been difficult for the past several years, partly because of competition from the Dallas area, where smaller suburban police department provide higher salaries.
