Grassroots crime fighting campaign

Grass Roots Crime-fighting Campaign kicks off Monday

Shreveport Police Department will kick off the 2006 Grass Roots Crime-fighting on Monday, Feb. 13.

The crime-fighting campaign is a project by the Community Oriented Policing Bureau that involves officers going door to door in various neighborhoods to meet and visit with citizens about crime problems in their neighborhoods.

Beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, officers will hit the pavement in the Waterside neighborhood of southeast Shreveport. They plan to visit about 500 homes. Those involved in the walk - including the city's Community Development office and Shreveport Green - will meet at Querbes Park, 3500 Beverly Street between 3:30 and 4 p.m. The walk will end about 6 p.m.

SPD also has a new community office at Querbes Park. The phone number there is 673-7390 in case area residents would like to contact members of the COP Bureau.
