FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New horse patrols downtown Shreveport

Shreveport Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit has received a new member. Tiger, a 7-year-old registered Quarter horse, has been on the streets all month.

Tiger was purchased for $2,000 by a donation from the well-known Blind Tiger restaurant downtown. Tiger was named in honor of the donor.

Tiger came from Wade Correctional Center and was already trained. She has filled a void that has been in Mounted Patrol, since several horses have been retired or died.

Besides patrolling downtown, the horses are used for special events, such as Mardi Gras parades and other places where large crowds gather.

Three more horses are needed. Anyone who has a gentle horse they would like to donate or funds they would like to give to purchase one, call the Mounted Patrol Barn at 673-7250.
