Men arrested for multiple robberies

(photos cannot yet be released)

Shreveport Police have arrested two men in connection with a string of armed robberies that have occurred recently, including robberies at Chase Bank and Thrifty Liquor stores.

Jwan Williams, 22, of Bossier City was arrested and charged with the Jan. 9 robbery of Thrifty Liquor in the 8600 block of Youree Drive. In this case, Williams entered the business armed with a sawed off shotgun and demanded money. He got it and fled the business.

Police also arrested Kenneth Owens, 18, of Shreveport on a charge of armed robbery and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He is accused of robbing Chase Bank on Jan. 12 in the 300 block of East 70th Street. In that case he and another person entered the bank armed with handguns and ordered employees and one customer to the ground. They then demanded money from the clerk and fled.

While arresting Owens, officers seized about $4,000 worth of marijuana, so he was also arrested on the drug charges. In addition, the officers seized numerous items believed to be purchased with robbery proceeds, including a large-screen television, furniture and clothing.

Both Owens and Williams are believed to be tied to other robberies in that area, as well as some robberies in Bossier City. Police are currently looking at other suspects and expect more arrests and charges to be filed.
