FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Accident injures three

An afternoon accident tied up traffic on Interstate 20 near downtown for a little more than an hour today.

The accident, which involved a 1992 Honda Accord and an 18-wheeler rig hauling 80,000 pounds of sand, occurred about 1 p.m.

The Accord, driven by Bertina Banks, 28, of Shreveport collided with the truck, causing the car to spin around and hit two concrete barriers.

Banks and two others in her vehicle (31-year-old Tarsha McKinney and 56-year-old Betty Snow) were transported to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.

The driver of the truck, 26-year-old Larry Wilkins of Ruston, was not injured. He was driving a truck owned by J.D. Caver and Company.

Both vehicles were travelling westbound on Interstate 20 near the Spring/Market Street exit. The Honda apparently moved into the lefthand lane, and the truck was unable to avoid hitting it. Banks was cited for careless operation.
