FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Police to retire quarter horse

Members of the Shreveport Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit are saying goodbye to a faithful partner in crime.

Cookie, a 21-year-old registered quarter horse, is being retired. She will be sent to pasture on Wednesday to enjoy the rest of her long life.

Cookie, also known as "Jingle Bells," has been with the police department since Sept. 11, 1987. She has patrolled the streets of downtown Shreveport for years and was the horse most used to greet citizens and give demonstrations to the public.

The horse is being donated to the family of Kevin and Kris Smith, who will give Cookie a loving home at their ranch in rural Caddo Parish.
