Armed robbery suspect charged with attempted murder

A suspect arrested yesterday in the 1400 block of Acorn is now facing charges for the attempted murder of a Shreveport police officer.

Brian Garner, b/m, 28, was arrested shortly before 7:00 a.m on Wednesday for armed robbery and assault of an individual and was taken into custody by police. Further investigation revealed Garner was the shooter in an incident on Tuesday involving an attempt to kill a Shreveport Police Officer.

In that incident, beer was stolen from a Circle K store on the Shreveport-Barksdale Highway and descriptions of the suspects were broadcast. Officer Ronald Herkey was pursuing two suspects, believed to be involved in the theft, through the housing complex at 541 E. Stoner when he was fired upon towards the direction of his patrol car. The shots, fired from an assault weapon, struck a privately owned vehicle that was parked adjacent to his patrol car. As a result of an area search for the suspects, several handguns were seized near where the shoplifting suspects were taken into custody. No one was physically injured by the gunfire.

Symond Taylor, 23, of Baton Rouge was charged with armed robbery of an individual, and Garner was charged with armed robbery and attempted murder. A third individual was questioned and released.
