Police arrest woman on attempted 1^st degree murder charge

Shreveport police arrested Latonya Smith, 20, last night on a charge of 1^st degree attempted murder of her one year daughter.

Smith brought her daughter to the Willis Knighton North emergency room where the staff found the child had no pulse and was not breathing. The infant was revived, but had sustained multiple injuries.

The mother claimed the child fell against a counter in a motel, but had suffered only a bleeding lip. She says she fed her and the child fell asleep.

The little girl is currently on life support in the Schumpert Pediatric ICU. Smith was booked into Caddo Correctional Center.
