Three SPD employees to get life-saving awards

A Shreveport Police corporal and two SPD jailers will get Life Saving Awards during a ceremony at 2 p.m. today.

The event will take place in the Chief’s Conference Room, located on the first floor of the Shreveport Police Department, 1234 Texas Ave.

Cpl. Scott Dickard saved the life of a man whose truck had gone into the bayou on Shreveport Barksdale Highway on March 2. Dickard jumped into the bayou and saw that the man was unconscious. He managed to awake the man, enter the pickup truck that was sinking and pull the victim to safety.

The two jailers who will receive Life Saving Awards are Jailer I Patricia Evans and Jailer I Renita Smith. Both saved the lives of inmates who were attempting to commit suicide by noticing their behavior on the jail cameras.
