Shreveport officer placed on administrative leave

Shreveport Chief of Police Jim Roberts placed a police corporal on administrative leave for violation of departmental rules and regulations this morning.

Jimmie Peck, 38, has worked for the department since August of 1990.

Shreveport police took Peck into custody when he showed up for work about 6:30 a.m. today. He was placed on leave and then turned over to officials with the FBI and the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office. Those officials arrested Peck and charged him with federal bank robbery after a police radio belonging to Peck was found in a suspect’s car.

"Officers who break the law deserve even tougher penalties than other criminals," Chief Roberts said. "Their actions not only reflect badly on themselves, but they compromise the integrity of all other police officers who work so hard to enforce the laws. It makes other officers look bad, and it makes the department look bad.

"Shreveport officers are fine, upstanding citizens who put their lives on the line everyday to protect others," Roberts added. "This type of behavior will not be tolerated. And when a situation like this arises, it will be dealt with swiftly and justly."
