"Scream robber" charged with more robberies

A masked bandit caught by police after robbing the House of Brass on Tuesday has now been charged with a total of seven robberies.

Melvin Lynn Johnson Jr., 33, of Shreveport is now charged with the following crimes:

• Armed robbery of McDonald’s in the 8900 block of Mansfield Road on Nov. 3.

• Armed robbery of McDonald’s in the 1300 block of Shreveport-Barksdale Highway on Dec. 16.

• Attempted armed robbery of Grandy’s in the 6800 block of Pines Road on Dec. 17.

• Armed robbery of Calypso’s Lingerie in the 600 block of Bert Kouns on Dec. 19.

• Armed robbery of Home Federal Credit Union in the 6300 block of Youree Drive on Dec. 23.

• Attempted armed robbery of Taco Bell in the 1400 block of Kings Highway on Dec. 29.

• Armed robbery of House of Brass in the 3700 block of Youree Drive on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

• Convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

• Two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.

• Resisting arrest.

Johnson also had six warrants on charges that included four for resisting an officer, misrepresentation during booking and no driver’s license.

Johnson was arrested after police arrived at the House of Brass while the robbery was in progress. He was caught a short distance from the store with the stolen money, a Scream movie mask and a shotgun he used in all of his robberies.
