One charged in Wednesday’s officer-involved shooting

An investigation into a traffic stop that turned into an officer-involved shooting has produced the identities of all four people in the suspect vehicle, as well as the person who reportedly stole it.

The vehicle, a white Chevy Malibu reported stolen on Monday, was stopped by traffic officers for speeding about 1 p.m. Wednesday. Officer Dean Willis was grabbed by a suspect and dragged a short distance. While Willis was being injured, Cpl. Michael LaSuzzo discharged his service weapon to stop the action.

The car continued to an apartment complex on Mabel Street, where passenger Willie Green, 45, was found shot in the lower left back. Green was released from LSU Hospital and booked into the Shreveport City Jail Thursday. He is being held on outstanding city warrants.

A second suspect apprehended near the scene, 39-year-old Donald Stephens of Benton, also is in the City Jail on outstanding warrants. Initially Stephens and Green were charged with illegal possession of stolen things, but those charges have been dropped.

The investigation has determined that neither Green nor Stephens were active participants in the incident.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Lamar Hayes, 19, of the 2600 block of Lillian. Hayes was arrested about 4 a.m. today and charged with aggravated flight. He was identified as the front seat passenger in the vehicle.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the driver, 27-year-old Daniel Jefferson of Shreveport. Jefferson is wanted for aggravated flight. Police also are looking for 36-year-old Christopher Clark (unknown address), who is wanted for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for stealing the Malibu.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Jefferson or Clark, call detectives at 673-6955 or Crime Stoppers at 673-7000.
