Suspected robber shot in head by store owner

An armed robbery turned into a shooting at 1:45 p.m. today at the Cooper Heights Grocery at David Raines Road and Fisher Street.

The store owner, Jessie Bradford, reportedly was shot in the hand by a black male wearing a bandana and holding a small-caliber handgun. The owner shot back firing six times at the suspect, who fled the business on foot with a small amount of cash.

About 15 minutes later, police received a call about a man shot in the head at the Prince Village apartments – just two blocks from where the robbery occurred.

William Wright II, 18, was taken to LSU Hospital. A search of the apartment complex where he was found shot turned up evidence that appears to be related to the robbery.

Once released from the hospital, Wright will be transported to the Shreveport City Jail on a charge of attempted first degree murder.
