Weed and Seed brings astronaut program to Judson

Queensborough/Ingleside Weed and Seed has selected Judson Elementary Fundamental Magnet School’s 5th grade science class to participate in the NASA Junior Astronauts Program.

On Friday, Oct. 12, Young Astronaut Program trainer Cecilia Blalock, will visit Judson to share the astronaut curriculum with teachers who will be teaching the program to their Shreveport students. Blalock works with the Junior Astronaut Program out of Washington D.C.

Training will start immediately after a reception that begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday. The event takes place in Judson’s Multi Purpose Building at 3809 Judson St.

The Young Astronaut Program unites students and educators around the world in exploring space-related science and technology. The mission of the program is to take students on a journey into space and back again. Its five-part curriculum challenges students with hand-on activities that not only has them explore space, but it also helps students understand how science relates to their own lives.

Queensborough/Ingleside Weed and Seed received a grant that allowed the Shreveport Police Department to bring the astronaut program to local students. For more information, visit the Young Astronaut Program web site at www.youngastronauts.com
