School bus accident sends 14 to hospital

A car and a school bus collided at Russell Road and Martin Luther King this afternoon, tying up traffic and sending 14 people to LSU Hospital with minor injuries.

The bus was carrying 45 students when the driver of the car ran a stop light as he was turning left onto MLK from Russell Road. The school bus, which was proceeding straight through the intersection on MLK. ran into the driver’s side of the car.

The driver, 46-year-old Huey P. Hendrick of the 1300 block of Audrey Lane, is being cited for running a red light and having no driver’s license. The bus driver, 54-year-old Jennis Speed of the 1200 block of North Pines Drive, was not injured.
