Two hostages charged after early morning shooting

Two people released after a man held them hostage in a house in the 3500 block of Oak Park early this morning have been charged with crimes.

William Campbell, 19, of the 800 block of Windsor is charged with attempted first-degree murder and Tangela Williams, 32, of the 3500 block of Oak Park is charged with criminal conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

The two were released to police about an hour after a suspect held them against their will. The suspect, who is believed to be 24 years old, allegedly killed himself after releasing the hostages.

The incident began about 12:47 a.m. when Stacey Carter, 35, of Shreveport was shot in the hip during a robbery attempt. Campbell allegedly shot Carter, who was found by police injured in the driveway of the home. Following the shooting the 24-year-old barricaded himself in the house with Campbell and Williams.

The standoff ended around 3:45 a.m. after the Shreveport Police Department’s Special Response Team went inside the home and found the suspect dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

Detectives are still sorting out details, but it appears as though the entire incident began as an attempt to rob Carter.

The deceased suspect’s identity is not being released, pending positive identification and family notification.
