Police Department to sponsor free golf camp

They can play basketball, baseball and football. But what few citizens know is that there are some police officers – including Police Chief Jim Roberts – who can play a pretty good round of golf.

Children ages 8 to 12 can learn how to play golf from the local "police pros" for free at the first-ever Shreveport Police Department Golf Camp.

The golf camp will be held Sept. 22 from 8 a.m. to noon at Querbes Park Golf Course, 3500 Beverly Place.

During the camp, participants will learn the rules of the game, as well as how to drive, chip and putt.

Instructors include Chief Roberts, Sgt. Mike Shannon, Police Pastor/Chaplain Ernest James and SPD Neighborhood Assistance Team Member John Young.

Registration is allowed up to camp day. To reserve a spot, call Sgt. Wendell Delaney at 673-6950.
