Police collect books for school libraries

Shreveport Police Department wants local students to expand their knowledge and reading skills by curling up with a good book this fall.

A book collection drive is being held as part of Project Read, an annual program in which police officers and city leaders read to students.

School libraries could be greatly enhanced with donations of new and used children’s books. The donations can expand the book selection, while exposing children to new and exciting adventures.

Any parents with books their children have outgrown, or anyone who has a fascinations with storytelling are encouraged to share their gifts by participating in Project Read.

Books can be dropped off at either Weed and Seed site, or at the Neighborhood Assistance Team (NAT) Offices located around town. Anyone wanting to volunteer to read this fall is welcome. Call Sgt. Wendell Delaney at 673-6950 for more information or to sign up.

Books may be dropped off at the following locations:

    • Police Chief Jim Robert’s office, located at SPD, 1234 Texas Ave.

    • Area 2 Weed and Seed, located in the Highland Center, 520 Olive.

    • Queensborough/Ingleside Weed and Seed, located at 2701 Portland.

    • Area 1 NAT Office at Lakeside Community Center, 2200 Milam.

    • Area 3 NAT Office at Airport Park, 6500 Kennedy Dr.

    • Area 4 NAT Office at A.B. Palmer Community Center, 547 E. 79th St.
