Police to assist World Changers

About 200 kids will be in town next week to fix up homes in the Queensborough and Ingleside neighborhoods, and Operation Weed and Seed will be there to help.

World Changers, a program sponsored by the North American Mission Board of Southern Baptist Convention, will be in town Sunday through July 21 to provide Christian service to residents whose homes need repairing or improving. Home improvements begin Monday.

Operation Weed and Seed will be on hand at various locations where the children will be working, providing security and a helping hand when needed. The locations where students will be working are:

• 2719 West College – replace roof

• 2709 Judson – replace roof decking, porch ceiling and damaged siding, provide handrails and new exterior doors.

• 2715 Lillian – replace roof, porch floors, handicap ramp, front steps.

• 2727 Fredrick – replace roof, paint, install exterior door and hand rail.

• 2745 Fredrick – replace roof and paint.

• 1908 Alabama – replace roof and windowsills, repair wood siding, paint.

• 3127 West Laurel – replace roof, porch floor, door, handicap ramp & paint.

• 2560 Dupont – replace roof, porch floors and front door.

• 2814 Dupont – replace roof and install hand rail.

• 3019 Desoto – replace roof, repair trim, repair front screen and paint.

• 2834 Corbitt – replace roof and rafters, repair siding and paint.

• 4637 Rightway – replace roof and porch posts, repair porch floor, paint.

• 3057 Syphon – replace roof and exterior door, paint.

While the children are providing the labor, the city’s Office of Community Development is providing the supplies. When finished, the neighborhoods will get fresh new looks and the residents will have safer, prettier houses.
