Officers receive community and statewide awards

Shreveport Police Department is celebrating this week, as three of its officers have received awards. They are:

• Detective Ben Daily – Daily, a property crimes detective, was honored Sunday morning by the Louisiana Society of 40 & 8 in Morgan City, Louisiana. Daily received the local society’s award a few months ago and received the state’s award last weekend during the Promenade du Louisiana. Daily was honored for his work on a number of high-profile property crimes cases, including the theft of thousands of dollars in lawn equipment.

• Officer Michael Greber – Greber, a patrol officer assigned to Area 2, was named the Kiwanis Club of Shreveport’s Law Enforcement Officer of the Year during a luncheon Thursday at the Holiday Inn Downtown. Greber has made an outstanding number of arrests and is a certified Field Training Officer who works with new officers to see that their needs are met and they are properly trained when they first hit the streets.

• Officer Leo Fartaczek – Fartaczek has been selected at Officer of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Chiefs of Police and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. He will receive the award this weekend at the Grand Banquet, which will be held at the Holiday Inn Central -- Holidome in Lafayette. On Jan. 21, 2001, Faraczek helped save the lives of two adults and five children (ages 1,1, 5, 7 and 9) during a house fire in the 2900 block of Ashton.
