Shreveport Firefighter to receive Police Chief’s award

Rodney Murray of the Shreveport Fire Department will receive Police Chief Jim Roberts’ Appreciation Award at 10 a.m. Friday in the Fire Prevention Office, located on the fifth floor of the N.O. Thomas Building.

Murray administered treatment to a shooting victim even while the violent confrontation was ongoing at North Emerald Loop and New Mexico on June 24.

According to reports, Murray had administered preliminary treatment to one of the shooting victims, and had gone back to his vehicle to get supplies when further violence erupted. He continued to assist in the treatment of the injured even after on-duty Shreveport Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene.

Roberts will present Murray the award for his brave and selfless actions.
