Girl Power workshops focus on character

Teen-aged girls will learn about the importance of character in a session called Character Counts on Monday.

Character Counts is one of several sessions included in the Girl Power Krewe workshops being held this summer.

Beverly Whitehead, staff facilitator for Louisiana Community Policing Institute, will lead the discussion from 4 to 6 p.m. at Wilkinson Terrace Community Center, 2725 Southern Ave. The program focuses on the six pillars of good character, which are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

On June 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Wilkinson Terrace, girls will learn how to deal with difficult times in a workshop called When the Going Gets Tough.

Girl Power Krewe is sponsored by American Red Cross, Bath & Body Works in Mall St. Vincent, Caddo Community Action Agency, Eckerd Drugs on Mansfield Road, Housing Authority of Shreveport, Louisiana Conventions and Events, Sheraton Shreveport Hotel, the Resident Council of Wilkinson Terrace, Antwines’ Hair Care Salon and Shreveport Police Department’s Neighborhood Assistance Team Two.

About two dozen girls participate in the workshops. Any girl interested

in attending the workshops is welcome. For more information, call 673-7390.
