Police Summer Camp kicks off Wednesday

About 100 boys ages 10 to 14 will be camping out with members of the Shreveport Police Department this week.

The first-ever Shreveport Police Department Summer Camp will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and run through 9 a.m. Saturday.

Boys from Shreveport will camp in tents at the Garland Scout Ranch in Stonewall and participate in a number of activities, including swimming, boating, shooting sports, crafts and life skills.

But besides the new things they will learn and do, probably the most valuable thing the boys will learn is that police officers are their friends.

Best coverage times for this event is between 9 and 11 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. when campwide activities take place. Camp fires will be held on Wednesday and Friday nights at 8:30 p.m.

Any coverage of the camp is welcome, and we’d be happy to supply a tent and sleeping bags to reporters and photographers who dare to rough it with the officers.
