Eleven officers to be promoted

Officer promotions will held at 2 p.m. today, with 11 officers being promoted to various ranks from Police Communications Officer II to Assistant Chief of Police. The following officers will be promoted:

* Capt. Charlie Owens will become Assistant Chief of Police. He has been with the department since January of 1973.

* Lt. Richard Walker will make captain. He’s been with SPD since May of 1975.

* Lt. Gary Alderman will make captain. He has been with SPD since May of 1975.

* Sgt. Vera Ragland will make lieutenant. She has been with the SPD since December of 1980.

* Sgt. D.J. Gaut will make lieutenant. He has been with SPD since February

of 1981.

* Cpl. Robert Chandler will make sergeant. He’s been with SPD since June of 1987.

* Cpl. J.J. Odom will make sergeant. He’s been with the department since June

of 1987.

* Officer Stephen Plunkett will make corporal. He’s been with the SPD since May of 1991.

* Officer Dianna Thomas will make corporal. She has been with the SPD since September of 1991.

* PCO I Arzeria Wilkerson will make PCO II. She has been with the SPD since April of 1983.

* PCO I Deborah Fontenot will make PCO II. She has been with SPD since

August of 1989.
