Man killed in shooting identified

The man who is believed to have shot himself in the head during a shootout with police officers at 12:43 a.m. has been identified as 21-year-old Walter Lee Dallas of Shreveport.

Dallas was wanted by police for attempted second-degree murder for a shooting that occurred at the H&H Lounge on Feb. 15. Dallas allegedly shot Rodney Marquis Hill in the abdomen, right arm and neck.

Four police officers were serving an arrest warrant for Dallas in the 7200 block of Bernstein when the incident occurred.

A Crime Stoppers tip led police to the location of Dallas, who had been on the run from police since the arrest warrant was issued Feb. 21. In an earlier attempt to arrest him in the Lakeside neighborhood, Dallas armed himself with two guns and pointed them at Shreveport detectives. Detectives were forced to call off their foot pursuit because of public safety.

The officer who was involved in this morning’s shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave pending investigation – a standard procedure when an officer has to use their service weapon.
